

QUINTEN GENE VOLKERT, 81, of Fort Wayne, died on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Parkview Regional Hospital. Born July 24, 1931, in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late DeWitt M. Volkert and Pearl Leann (Guiff). He was a 1950 Harlan High School graduate and served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. He was an installer/maintainer at General Telephone, retiring in 1984. He was a member of American Legion Post 409, in Leo; Masonic Lodge, in Harlan; and N. Scipio United Methodist Church. He loved flying, Euchre, traveling, playing guitar, and his family. Surviving are his wife, Judy Kay Volkert of Fort Wayne; daughters, Sheryl Horne of Woodburn, Jennie (Roger) Canada of Westerville, Okla., Kari (Jeff) Jackson of Harlan, Mary (Jon) Stephens of Arcadia, Ind., and Vicki (Robert) Holder of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Alan (Charlene) Volkert of Harlan; and sister, Gloria Dickerson of Athens, Texas. He was also preceded in death by his son, Philip G. Volkert on April 6, 2013. Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Monday at N. Scipio United Methodist Church, with calling from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Phil Abram officiating. Calling also from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road. Burial in Scipio Cemetery. Preferred memorials to the Alzheimer's Association .
