Passed away in his sleep at his beloved home on March 18, 2017 in Harlingen and was a life-long resident. His is the fourth child of eleven of Juan and Francisca Leal.
George developed an everlasting love of music when the “British Invasion” was at full strength. So indelible was the influence that he taught himself to play guitar at an early age and helped form the first of several bands that would follow over the coming years. He was a virtuoso as a lead guitarist and sought to emulate his heroes from his favorite bands. His music filled his life until the very end, leaving contracts to perform unfulfilled. He had numerous friends and colleagues as a result of his dear music and will be profoundly missed by them.
He attended and graduated from Harlingen High School, class of 1975. George began working at Sort Rite, now defunct, as a welder and continued there until the business closed. He then continued his odyssey as a highly valued welder and craftsman at Tri-Pak Machinery Inc., where very few could match his skill and metallurgical knowledge. This skill, as his music, was also self-taught. He had an incredible intellect and a facility for the craft. George loved welding and everything that went with it. He would continue to work until his doctors forced him to stop.
George is survived by mother Francisca Leal, brothers, Juan A. Leal (Susan) - San Antonio, Carlos R. Leal -Harlingen, Francisco Leal (Norma) – Brownsville, Armando Leal (Ruby) –Harlingen, Alfredo Leal (Diane) – McAllen, sister, Maria Estella Anguiano(Steve - deceased) – Harlingen, Miguel Leal – Harlingen, Gilberto Leal(Marietta) – Harlingen, and by numerous nephews and nieces.
