

The sun set for the last time over Maria Victoria Perez-Sanchez from Monterrey, Mexico, on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, in Rio Hondo, Texas , at the age of 89. She grew up in Mexico and earned a degree in Nursing in Monterrey, Mexico. She married Vito Moody Sanchez of Harlingen, Texas in Mexico in 1949, following his release from the United States Army. They resided in Harlingen until they relocated to Chicago, Illinois in 1951, looking for a better future. They raised a family of five boys before returning to the Rio Grande Valley in 1992. Upon their retirement, they returned and reunited with their families. In Chicago, Maria Victoria earned a High School Diploma from Wells High School and became a naturalized citizen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, father, Nasario de Jesus Perez- Riojas and mother, Maria Teresa Torres; her brother, Juan Fernando Perez; and her husband, Vito Moody Sanchez of 59 years preceded her in death in 2008.
Maria Victoria is survived by her sister, Maria Antonia Perez-Greuttner (of Chicago, IL) and her two daughters, Claudia and spouse Mathias Ulbert and their two boy, Alec and Austin; and Tania and her spouse Casey Thomas and their two children Mia and Carter. Maria’s five sons, Jose Gerardo Sanchez and his spouse Maria del Refugio (of San Antonio, TX) and their four children, Jose Gerardo Jr., Adriana, Viviana, Cristina Victoria, and Alessandra Alicia; son Jaime Abelardo Sanchez (of Dallas, TX) and his two daughters Vida and her spouse Robert Sardena, and Vanessa and her spouse Gildigard Sanchez and their son
Gildigard; son Vito Jose Sanchez (of Phoenix, AZ) and his four children, Alejandro, Antonio, Ricardo and his spouse Sylvia and their sons Ricardo Jr and Nicolas and Vito’s daughter Marissa and her spouse Jim Krug and their son Roberto Valdez; son Adrian Javier Sanchez (of Rio Hondo, TX) and his three children Andres, Javier, and Sabrina and her children Kassandra, Isaiah and Samuel; and son Edward Elliott Sanchez and his spouse Martha (of Chicago, IL) and their girls Lorena, Karina and Isa; niece Jovita Sanchez and her spouse Richard De La Torre.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, beginning at 1 p.m., and will continue until 9 p.m., at Funeraria del Angel. Visitation will resume on Thursday, June 29, at 5 p.m., with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at 7 p.m., at Funeraria del Angel. Mass of Ressurection will be held at 2 Friday, June 30, at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Rio Hondo, with burial to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
