Petra A. Hernandez

Petra A. Hernandez, 81, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, belonged to the Catholic Daughters of America, served as an Eucharistic Minister, was a member of the church choir, el Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, and La Vela Perpetua. She enjoyed arts and crafts, playing chalupa, shopping, and social church events. She enjoyed attending La Familia Adult Day Care. She devoted much of her time to her family and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. She touched the lives of many with her generosity and her caring, loving way. Mom, Grandma, Ama Petra, you will live on in all of us because you are a part of us and you will always be, forever in our hearts. We love you more than words can say, and we will miss you dearly.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Fermin Hernandez; her mother, Leonides Castillo Hernandez; her father, Basilio Alvarado; her sister, Pat Alvarado; her uncle, Cleofas Castillo; her aunt, Bruna Castillo.

She is survived by her loving sons and daughters, Magdalena (Jose) Betancourt, San Juana (Jesus) Torres, Gloria Hernandez, Juan (Sylvia) Hernandez, and Lupe (Liz) Hernandez, Sr., Jose (Yvonne) Hernandez, Sokie Hernandez, and Bennie Hernandez. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in San Benito, Texas. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
