Betty Jean Campbell
February 23, 1933 – January 22, 2017
Betty Jean Wiles Campbell, 83 passed away Sunday January 22, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness. Betty was born February 23, 1933 in Yadkin County to the late John Claude and Percie Mae Renegar Wiles.
Betty was a graduate of Courtney High School, class of 1950. She was also the valedictorian of her senior class, and was on the basketball team. She was married to Robert Glen “Sam” Campbell for 56 years. She retired from the Iredell County School System after working 31 years at Harmony Elementary and North Iredell High School. She was a faithful member of Harmony United Methodist Church. Her joy came from singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and serving others on many committees. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt and special friend to everyone. She enjoyed painting, spending time at their place on the New River, beach trips with family and was an avid UNC Tarheel Basketball fan.
Along with her parents and husband, Sam, she was also predeceased in death by two sisters, Sallie Wiles Ray and Stella Mae Wiles Campbell; three brothers, Franklin Grant Wiles, John Parks Wiles and William Wesley Wiles. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Teresa Robin Campbell of Harmony; her son, Jeffery Lynn Campbell and his wife Vickie of Huntersville, NC; her sister, Claudine Wiles Adams and her husband Jerry of Hamptonville; two grandchildren, Justin Campbell of West Palm Beach, FL and Joshua Campbell of Cornelius, NC and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration service of her life will be held at Harmony United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Handy officiating on Thursday 11am with the burial to follow in the Harmony Cemetery. The family will visit with friends at the church prior to the service from 10-11am.
A special thanks to the Nurses, CNA’s and staff at Hospice of Iredell County for their care. Memorial contributions may be made to the Harmony United Methodist Church, 136 W. Memorial Hwy, Harmony, NC 28634 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2341 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625 in her memory.
