Betty Neil Harris Gaither

Born in Iredell County on November 1, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Rob Allen Harris and Evelyn Marie VanHoy Harris Holcomb.

Mrs. Gaither worked for the Iredell-Statesville Schools System as Manager of Food Service, retiring in 1996 from North Iredell High School.

After retirement, she enjoyed traveling and camping. She loved to read and entertain, especially spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 60 years, Ned Spurgeon Gaither of the home; two sons, Ned Christopher “Chris” Gaither of Statesville and Michael Neill Gaither and wife Shelia Sloan Gaither of Harmony; grandchildren, Jessica Gaither Christopher and husband Adam, Daniel Wayne Gaither, Preston Campbell and Garrett Campbell; two great-grandchildren, Eli and Leo Christopher and one brother, Robert “Buster” Harris and wife Peggy.

Betty was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church, where her family will receive friends Saturday, July 9, 2016 from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM in the church with Rev. Bruce Handy officiating. Burial will follow at Harmony Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County 2347 Simonton Road Statesville, NC 28625 or to Harmony United Methodist Church 136 West Memorial Highway Harmony, NC 28634.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, special caregiver, Debbie Church and volunteer, Marie Prather for their wonderful love and care shown to Betty and their family.
