Janice Stroud Ratledge

She was born May 28, 1933, in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Lester Ray and Ila D. Stroud. She was a member of Society Baptist Church and retired from Jurney’s Rest Home.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Duke Martin Ratledge, Jr. whom she married in 1951; and a brother, Paige Clay Stroud.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandra “Sandy” Gail Ratledge of Harmony; a son, Samuel Ratledge (Liberty) of Jacksonville, FL; two grandsons, Samuel Ratledge, Jr. of Orlando, FL and William Ray Ratledge of Jacksonville, FL; a “granddaughter,” Michaela Boger of Mocksville; a sister, Phyllis Ward (James) of Winston-Salem; a brother, Wendell Stroud (Frankie) of Harmony; and her feline companion, Toby. She is also survived by her sisters- and brothers-in-law, Shirley Webb (Jerry), Jerry Ratledge and Frances Peoples, all of Mocksville, and Donnie Ratledge (Sharon) of Salisbury; and several special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services celebrating Janice’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at Society Baptist Church with the Rev. Bert Mathis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Tuesday at the church prior to the service.
