He was born June 1, 1936, in Iredell County and was a son of the late Ruffus and Lilly Summers Sharpe. He was a cattle farmer and a faithful and dedicated caretaker of God's land. Jim was happiest on a tractor working on the same farm for 66 years. Although he was set in his ways (his way or no way), he loved providing for and taking care of his family. Jim mostly loved to fish and hunt, watch westerns and spend quality time with his family. He will truly be missed by family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Buster Sharpe, Elizabeth Shoemaker and Norma Shoemaker.
He is survived by his faithful wife of 55 years, Mary Shoemaker Sharpe. He was a loving father to his five children, Grady Sharpe (Sheryl) of Olin, Judy Sharpe (Randy Osborne) of Olin, Roger Sharpe (Rachel Miller), Robin Link (Glenn) of Statesville, Steve Sharpe (Tena) of Statesville; and a caring and loving grandfather to his six grandchildren, Scott Sharpe, Shawn Sharpe, Matthew Link, Kelsey Sharpe, Kaitlyn Miller and Taylor Sharpe. He is also survived by two sisters and two brothers, Mary Shoemaker of Harmony, Mae Walker (Allen) of Statesville, John Sharpe (Margie) of Statesville and Joe Sharpe of Olin.
