He was born May 23, 1928, in Harmony and was the son of the late L.A. and Maggie Foster Anderson. He had a love for wood-working and in his early years, he worked in the saw mill. He then worked with J.P. Stevens from 1951-1990 where he retired as plant manager, and later worked with them as a consultant. Following his retirement, he served as a textile consultant for yarn and carpet plants in Georgia. He was a lifelong member of Rock Spring Baptist Church in Harmony where he had served as a Deacon, Trustee, Sunday school teacher, and Chairman of the Cemetery Committee for many years. He was a member of the Harmony Masonic Lodge 299 and a member of the local Board of Trustees for First Bank in Harmony.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Charles Richard Anderson.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Louise Galliher Anderson, whom he married on February 24, 1945; a son, Roy Anderson (Doris) of Mt. Gilead, NC; a daughter, Shirley Rufty (Donald, Jr. “Duck”) of Durham; four grandchildren, Kristie Henry (Chad) of Wilson, Kimberly Baer (Brian) of Evans, GA, Maggie Barry (Patrick) of Pinehurst, and Joseph Anderson Rufty of Raleigh; and three great-grandchildren, Anderson Barry, William Anderson Baer and Abigail Baer.
Funeral services celebrating Junior’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Rock Spring Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Manners officiating. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour and burial will follow with Masonic rites in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, June 22, 2012, in Ernest Troutman Memorial Chapel of Reavis Funeral Home of Harmony and at other times will be assembled at the residence.
