

Born in Iredell County on January 26, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Rufus and Lillie Summers Sharpe. She worked as an inspector in textiles for many years.
She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Harmony.
On May 28, 1956, Mary married her husband, Jack Stokes Shoemaker. He passed away in July 2009. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by brothers, Jim Sharpe and Bus Sharpe and sisters, Norma (Sis) Shoemaker and Elizabeth (Pud) Shoemaker.
Mrs. Shoemaker loved to read her bible, embroidering, watching her stories on television, playing rook, and she loved to bake cakes.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory are her son, Jack Shoemaker, Jr. and wife Kathy of Mocksville; daughters, Joyce Holland and husband Leroy of Harmony, Debra Shoemaker and companion Billy Milby of Summerfield, Kentucky, and Nancy Hefner and husband Waco of Harmony.
She also leaves behind five grandchildren, Joey Johnson, Jason Futch, James Cadigan, Jr., Karie Milby and Jacob Holland; eight great-grandchildren, Cherokee Johnson, Dakota Johnson, Katlyn Milby, Koltyn Milby, Eli Futch, Noah Cadigan, Logan Cadigan and Ruger Cadigan; two brothers, Joe Sharpe, John Sharpe and wife Margie; one sister, Mae Francis Walker and husband Alan, sisters-in-law, Mary Sharpe, Judy Holbrook, Ruby Breedlove and brother-in-law, Watt (Bubba) Shoemaker.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Friendship Baptist Church.
A graveside service will follow in the church cemetery at 11:00 AM with the Rev. John Whalen officiating.
