Mattie Phillips Byrd

Mrs. Mattie Phillips Byrd, 76, of Statesville and formerly of Elkin, died Sunday April 6th at Statesville Manor. Born in Kingwood, W. Va. on August 28, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Howard Lincoln Phillips and Carrie Margaret Buckinham Phillips. She was a retired C.N.A. from Elkin Health Care . She enjoyed quilting, crocheting her work and was a great Mom. She sacrificed for others without hesitation, caring for her handicapped husband for 22 years. She was married 53 years to her husband, David Monroe Byrd who survives. She also loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was there when they all were born.

Survivors in addition to her husband, include a son, Billy Byrd (Tina) of Harmony, two daughters, Tina Pope (Ricky) and Terrace Hall, all of Statesville, three sisters, Linda Phillips, Nina Smouse and Mary Campbell along with 5 grandchidren and 6 great grandchildren.

Services celebrating her life will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Ernest M. Troutman Memorial Chapel of Reavis Funeral Home Of Harmony with Rev. Jerry Shoemaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Jonesville. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 Monday evening at Reavis Funeral Home Of Harmony.
