She was born May 28, 1920, in Iredell County and was a daughter of the late Ulyses Simpson and Pearlie Mae Templeton York. She retired after 35 years from Cannon Mills and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Landis. She enjoyed baking cakes.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, Colon, Stamey, Raymond and Noble York; and sisters, Effie Holmes, Eula Bowles, Evelyn Wallace and Betty Heath.
She is survived by her husband, George Douglas Griffith, whom she married on April 21, 1946; and is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Services celebrating Ruth's life will be conducted at 11:00 Tuesday June 19, 2012, in the Ernest M. Troutman Memorial Chapel of Reavis Funeral Home of Harmony with the Rev. Bev Coppley officiating. The family will receive friends at the chapel for one hour prior to the service and burial will follow in the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
