

She was born June 12, 1919, in Catawba County and was the daughter if the late Preston and Annie Hefner Lail. She was a lifetime member of Grassy Knob Baptist Church. She was a devoted and faithful homemaker who was committed to her family and friends and was a fantastic cook.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on August 31, 1992, by her husband, Mitchell C. Mahaffey, whom she married on December 6, 1939; and five sisters.
She is survived by four daughters, Alma (Ted) Medlin of Statesville, Kay Phyllis (W.G.) Stokes of Hamptonville, Faye (Walter) Cook of Troutman, and Annie (James) Welborn of Ronda; three sons, Kenneth (Ludie) Bolick of Raleigh, Gene (Fay) Mahaffey and Dale (Cyndi) Mahaffey, both of Union Grove; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, Savanna Clemmons of Raleigh; a sister, Frances Drum of Maiden; three brothers, Gaither Lail of Claremont, Bob Lail of Vail, and Bill Lail of Catawba; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service celebrating Estelle’s life will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, November 8, 2015, at Grassy Knob Baptist Church with the Revs. Scott Chenevey and Carl Williams officiating . Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Reavis Funeral Home of Harmony.
