Anne McCue Carey, the loving mother of Kathleen Carey Daley, Patricia Carey Zucker, William J. Carey, Jr., Grace Carey Mudrick (Victor) and Matthew F. Carey (Doreen), all of whom survived her, peacefully died on June 15, 2023 at her home in Harrisburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Carey, Sr., and her granddaughter, Leah Zucker, but leaves five grandchildren, Anne Baloga (Alex), John Daley (Emily), Elizabeth Carey (fiancé Nathan), Elliott Zucker (Gabriella) and Brian Carey (Alexis) together with five delightful great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews that love and will miss her.
Anne, the youngest of five children, was born in Moscow, Pennsylvania on March 5, 1929 and graduated from Moscow High School in 1947. She moved to Harrisburg in 1965 and with her family attended Holy Family Church where she was an active member of the Merry Maids and involved in many Church and School activities, which her children attended.
Anne loved her work as a Legislative Liaison at the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, particularly her involvement with the Property Tax Rent Rebate Program, and she developed lifelong relationships with those with whom she worked. Originally from Lackawanna County, she was a dedicated volunteer for the Pennsylvania Democratic Party and enthusiastically supported Senator Bob Casey and his father before him, Robert P. Casey, 42nd Governor of Pennsylvania from 1987 to 1995.
As she aged, many of Anne’s treating physicians retired, however, until her death, Dr. Michael Banach of Pennsylvania Retina Specialists treated her for macular degeneration and together with his kind and skilled staff, helped Anne maintain her precious vision.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, from 6pm to 8pm at the Neill Funeral Home at 3501 Derry Street in Harrisburg, and on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, a one-hour visitation beginning at 9:30am will be held immediately prior to the 10:30 am funeral mass at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Roman Catholic Church at 2800 Paxton Church Road in Harrisburg. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery on Derry Street in Harrisburg.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Central Pennsylvania for its expert care of their mother and for the loving services provided to her by her nurse, Rae. In addition, Sharon Brice, a loyal friend and caretaker of Anne, displayed unmatched devotion, which the family will always remember and cherish.
