Betty S. Gontz, 89, of Harrisburg, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Golden Living, Harrisburg. She was born September 22, 1925 in Des Moine, IA, and she was the daughter of the late Eugene G. and Frieda L. (Stover) Sherwin.
She was a retired employee from the PA Department of Public Welfare; graduated from the former Lower Paxton Twp. High School, class of 1943, and a member of St. Margaret Mary Alocoque Catholic Church.
She is survived by her son, David E. Gontz, wife, Cynthia, of Dover; grandchildren, Micheal C. Gontz and Kathleen A. Gontz; and a great-grandson.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, October 23, 2014 in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg. Burial will be in East Harrisburg Cemetery. A visitation will be held at 12:00 PM noon Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Harrisburg, 7790 Grayson Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17111.
