Cynthia "Cindy" L. Womer, 67, of Halifax, PA, passed away at home on March 24, 2025. Born in Richmond, VA on August 4, 1957, she was the eldest daughter of the late James Hensley and Delores (Derk) Hensley.
Cindy worked at Penn National Insurance from the age of 17 until her retirement in 2019, after 46 years of dedicated service to the company. Beginning her career with the company as a member of the typing pool, she quickly worked her way up to her eventual position of administrative assistant to the company executives. A woman determined to be the best she could be, Cindy also earned her associate’s degree in business administration from Central Penn College.
Cindy was a deeply caring and unwaveringly loyal woman, who worked tirelessly her entire life to support and provide for her loved ones as well as improve the world around her. She was an intellectually curious person, who continued to learn and grow throughout her entire life. Cindy was an excellent home cook, and she enjoyed creating and modifying recipes to her taste to feed her family and loved ones. She loved gardening outside and caring for her house plants. As someone who lived in the country for most of her life, Cindy had a love for the nature and wildlife that surrounded her and enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels, an activity the family always shared together. Despite having to live with many medical complications, Cindy had the determination and drive to keep as active as she could be and continued to push herself to get outside and play with the family dogs, who she deeply loved. Most of all, she was a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister, and gave of herself endlessly to ensure the happiness of ones she held dear.
Cindy is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Gary L. Womer, her beloved daughter Erica L. Womer, the two family dogs, Maizie and Gemma who she loved like children, her sister Brenda Groy, her mother-in-law, Emma Womer, as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents James Hensley and Delores (Derk) Hensley, her sister Karen Vogelsong, her father-in-law Allen Womer, and a lifetime of pets who she considered her children.
