Francis J. Burdick, 82, passed away Thursday, August 11th, 2011, in Harrisburg Hospital. He was born June 6th, 1929, in West Clifford, PA and he was the son of the late Rose C. and Gomer E. Burdick. Frank served with the 7th Calvary in the Korean conflict where he was wounded in battle. He later worked at the former Olmstead Air Base in Middletown until his retirement. After retiring, Frank worked in downtown Harrisburg during the holiday parades as the kind gentleman making all the children smile by selling balloons and other fun toys.
Frank was preceded in death by his brothers Daniel A., Martin V., and Gerald C. Burdick. He is survived by his sister Ann Marie Legal, of Tucson, Arizona and many nephews and nieces; Wade Burdick, of Harrisburg, Dennis Burdick, of Camp Hill, Tim Burdick, of Lower Paxton Township, Mike Burdick, of Mechanicsburg, Danny Burdick, of Miami, FL, Jeff Burdick, of Seattle WA, Kirk Souder, of Harrisburg, Shawn Burdick, of Stowe VT, Lisa Smith, of Camp Hill, Laurie Burdick, of Sante Fe, NM and Kelli Snook, of Mechanicsburg.
Uncle Frank couldn't sit still for long. He was always on the go unless you lured him into a game of cards which could go on for hours. Later in life, he spent his leisure time pursuing his love of horse racing and more recently going to the Hollywood Casino. Uncle Frank was especially close with his nephews Wade Burdick and Kirk Souder but shared a very special bond with Kirk with whom he lived until he passed. He will be missed for his quick wit and sense of humor.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 19, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
Arrangements under the direction of Neill Funeral Home, Harrisburg, PA.
