
He served throughout the U.S. in the C.C.C. during the depression, was a WWII Navy Veteran, was a founder of St. Ann’s Byzantine Catholic Church and a member of the Holy Name Society. He retired from Olmstead Air Force Base and also retired from the PA. Dept. of Transportation. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and the VFW. George loved to travel, was an avid golfer and he enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife Elizabeth, of 68 years, he is survived by 3 daughters, Theresa and her husband Joseph Grab, of Middletown, Georgia Smee, of Harrisburg and Lisa and her husband Howie Ray of Barnegat, N.J.; 9 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 3 step great-grandchildren; a brother Steve, of Levittown; 2 sisters, Nancy Pilsitz, of Middletown and Madeline Kozloski, Fenton Michigan and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held in St. Ann’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 5408 Locust Lane, Harrisburg, PA 17109 at 10:00AM, on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, followed by a burial at Resurrection Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 3, 2011, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111 with a Parastas Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Bishop McDevitt Building Fund, 2200 Market Street, Harrisburg, PA 17103
