Born on December 10, 1940 to the late Frank and Lurena Egresites, she grew up in the house her grandfather built in Lawnton with her sisters and brother, playing many sports including softball. Georgianna went on to become the first Valedictorian of Central Dauphin High School and won a full scholarship to Elizabethtown College where she graduated with a BS and teacher certification.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Lloyd Price Nyce, who she met during Bible study at Elizabethtown College. Professionally, Georgianna worked as a secretary for a law firm and for a lobbying organization in Harrisburg in the summers, and taught in the schools of the Arch Diocese of Chicago and at CD East HS before becoming a full-time homemaker.
As a volunteer she was involved in the Head Start Program at Harrisburg First Church of the Brethren in the 1960’s where she also directed the youth musical “No Vacancy” and typed up the church cook book as a fundraiser for NYC. She served as President of TMI Alert (TMIA) from 1979 to the early 80’s.
Georgianna loved music and especially singing and playing her piano. She had taught herself using the piano in the EC church across from the family home that her grandfather had also helped to build. She sang in the Harrisburg Choral Society under Don Clapper and with the Harrisburg Chamber Singers. She loved wildlife and gardening, especially raising flowers in her greenhouse. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, attending concerts, watching classic movies, and reading her much-loved books.
Georgianna is survived by her son, Douglas (Rosalind) Nyce, and her daughter, Lori Nyce; her grandchildren Hannah Nyce, Katie (James) Gleason, and Liam (Sophia) Nyce; her sister, Renee (Frank) Kost, as well as sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
A visitation at 10 a.m. and memorial service at 11 a.m. will be held at Neill Funeral Home at 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg, on Tuesday, September 17th, followed by interment at Hummelstown Cemetery.
