Gwendolyn C. Casey, age 80, of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully Wednesday February 13th, 2019, at Carolyn’s House, Harrisburg. She was born January 2, 1939 in Harrisburg, daughter of Keith K. Cook and Eleanor L. Cook of Harrisburg. Gwen is survived by her husband of 58 years, Michael R. Casey, son M. Ritner Casey and his wife, Stephanie S. Casey, daughter Margot C. Casey, and Gwen’s sisters Marlene C. Hager and Emilene C. Taylor. She is preceded in death by her sister Constance C. St. Jacques.
Gwen was a graduate of John Harris High School and the University of Pittsburgh Nursing School. She worked as an RN for many years, then worked for the Commonwealth of PA for the Office of Treasury, Governor, and Attorney General. After retiring from the state, Gwen worked for Temple University and furthered her passion in jewelry making through participation in juried art and jewelry shows. She was a member of the Dauphin County Council of Republican Women and the PA Guild of Craftsmen. Gwen was one of the longest living members of the Paxton Presbyterian Church as an active and faithful Christian. She supported and donated to numerous charities that were close to her heart.
Gwen made a lasting impact upon those she touched. She led an active life, constantly pursuing new opportunities, reading, and learning new skills. Gwen was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend to many. She was loyal, compassionate, dedicated, empathetic, and selfless.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM at Paxton Presbyterian Church, 3500 Sharon Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111 on Wednesday February 20, 2019. The family will receive visitors at the church prior to the service beginning at 10:30 a.m. Committal will occur at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 4855 Londonderry Road, Harrisburg, PA following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carolyn’s House, 1701 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg PA, 17110, www.hospiceofcentralpa.org.
