James S. Kern

Born October 8, 1933 in New Cumberland, he was the son of the late Ethel and Herbert Kern.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty (Shearer) Kern.

Surviving are his children, Joni Miller (Gordon) of VA., Craig (Sandy) of Summerdale, Lynn of VA and James Jr. of Hbg. and Debra of CA. He is also survived by six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Surviving are his brothers and sisters, Herbert, Paul (Sally), Charles, Ethel (Ronald) Steel, Carolyn (Kenneth) Shuff, Marie (Jack) Fortin.

James was retired from SCI, Camp Hill also Self Employed Structural Steel Detailing Service. He was a graduate of Lemoyne High School 1950 and a long time member of the Lawnton American Legion, Post 998. His favorite past time was watching the Phillies.

James life will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 12:00 PM at Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home 11:00 AM to time of service. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Homeland Hospice, 2300 Vartan Way, Suite 115, Harrisburg, 17110.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the medical doctors and personnel that became part of his life in the last 3 1/2 years.
