

He was born on March 18, 1959 in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late James Omslaer and Shirley Emerick.
Jay was a graduate of Wilkinsburg High School and The University of Pittsburgh.
Jay was known for his love of music, Pittsburgh sports teams, and finding the perfect spot in every parking lot. Jay spent his days as a devoted coach in many sports teaching youth, searching for baseballs in poison ivy, and going to Ted’s Bar and Grill after football and baseball games. He also enjoyed time in his recliner with the family dog, Lacy, or in his Man Cave (garage) watching sports, and playing Fantasy Football. He enjoyed sharing stories of his time in school, the National Guard and making mischief around Wilkinsburg as a young boy. He obtained the Rank of Sergeant E5 during his time in the Pennsylvania National Guard. He retired from Central Dauphin School District where he worked as the Director of Transportation for 16 years. He was most recently employed by Boyo Transportation as Operations Manager.
He spent his last days renovating the family’s forever home and working on a new collaborative venture for Creek View Urban Farm LLC.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years Susan Omslaer, son Trevor Omslaer (significant other Megan Crow), daughter Sara Omslaer (significant other Gabriel Bloom), three sisters; Judith Omslaer (Charles Alton), Jennifer Lyons (Ronald), and Joyce Mabin(late Paul Mabin), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St. Harrisburg, PA 17111 on Wednesday February 26 from 6-8PM for visitation with the family. A funeral visitation will take place on Friday, February 28 at 12 PM with service at 1 PM at the Homewood Cemetery 1599 S Dallas Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15217.
