John Michael Corrigan was born in Ashland, PA on August 9, 1936 to John and Margaret Corrigan. He graduated from St. Joe’s High School in 1953. He served in the US Army and in 1961, he was recalled to serve for the Berlin Crisis. He was first employed by the Commonwealth of PA, Bureau of Motor Vehicles. He then found employment at Polyclinic Hospital and then the Eric Theater. In retirement he worked at Your Golf Shop.
He married the former Barbara Bolick in 1961 and they shared a life together for 62 years. They were a great team and raised two children together, Barbara Schmitt and Michael Corrigan. They saw many Notre Dame football games together and traveled to many places, including Ireland which was their favorite place to visit.
John (also known as Jack) was kind, generous, compassionate, and loyal. His sense of humor combined with his Irish wit, his love of life and the courage to live it are the great gifts he left to us. He instilled in his children a sense of honor and loyalty. He taught them that you must be true to yourself and to stand up for your beliefs. He went out of his way for others so many times and pushed on when most would have given up. He was a courageous soul who lived life fully. He loved his family and friends, his Irish heritage, and the University of Notre Dame – both the football team and the marching band. No one could do the Victory March like he could.
Throughout his life, Jack has given us love, laughter, fun and memories to last a lifetime. He leaves behind to always remember the life he lived; his wife, Barbara; daughter, Barbara Jeanne and husband Chuck; daughter in-law, Janice; grandsons, Brian, Jonathan, Conor, Patrick, and granddaughter, Maura. He also leaves behind his sister, Mary Ann McCormick and husband Jack, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael and nephew Patrick McCormick whom we will never forget.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday 07/26 at 11:00am at St. Catherine Laboure Church; 4000 Derry St, Harrisburg, PA 17111. Visitation will take place from 10:00-11:00am.
And let us remember that in the end, it’s not the number of years in your life that we count, but how you lived those years; and Jack lived his life fully.
