

John W. Metzger, 61, of Harrisburg, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Hershey Medical Center. He was born June 30, 1953, in Harrisburg; he was the son of the late Frank R. and Emma L. (Pyke) Metzger Jr. and preceded in death by his brother, Robert D. Metzger. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Wanda L. (Todaro) Metzger; two daughters, Jaci L. Metzger and Kelly Morrison, both of Harrisburg; two sons, Jake T. Metzger, of Delaware and Christopher Metzger, of Hummelstown; two granddaughters, Erica Metzger and Araina Morrison; his brother, Frank R. Metzger III, (Ann Marie), of Aston; and three sisters, Brenda Fritz (Joseph), of Duncannon, Patsy Szekeres (Zack) and Cathy Defilippo, both of Harrisburg. John enjoyed camping, the beach, golfing and volunteering at the Harrisburg Homeless Veterans House. He was a retired employee for ABF Freight, of Carlisle; he was a member of the Sons of the Rutherford AMVETS Post 286, and the Enola Sportsmen Club. John was an active member and past SAL Commander for the Lawnton American Legion Post 998; past 19th District SAL Commander, Past Central Vice Commander, Past Detachment Commander, Past Alternate NEC, served as the Community Service Chairman, and a Director for the Pa. American Legion Housing for Homeless Veterans Corp. A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, July 25, 2014 following a Memorial Service at 12:00 PM in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pa. American Legion c/o Housing for Homeless Veterans Corp., P.O. Box 2324, Harrisburg, PA 17105-2324.
