John M. Shemas, Jr., passed away peacefully in his sleep at age 77 on July 29, 2024. He was in Hospice care at Shippensburg Rehabilitation and Health Care Center with residuals from a stroke suffered in January.
John was born May 12, 1947 and is the son of the late John M. and Joan (Tubelis) Shemas. John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Christine; their two sons and one daughter, their children’s spouses and six grandchildren. John also leaves behind two brothers and two sisters along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
John served in the U.S. Navy four years and was stationed in Newport, RI. He was responsible for the ASROC missile launcher aboard the USS Basilone which supplied gun support off the coast of Vietnam. John spent his career as a tool and die maker primarily with AMP later TYCO.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 8, 2024 in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A viewing will be from 10:00 AM Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
