“Joe” or “Pat”
Joseph Patrick Dearing, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at his home. He was born March 18, 1937 in Gettysburg, PA to the late Marie Isabella (Howard) Dearing and Frank William Dearing, of Washington, VA; and preceded in death by his brother, Paul Francis Howard.
He was a graduate of Gettysburg High School, class of 1957. Patrick served in the Air Force Security Services, NSA, 6889 RSM, and was stationed in Turkey and Japan.
Patrick retired from the former Bethlehem Steel, Steelton, PA, with 32 years of service. He was also an agent with the former Crone Real Estate Agency.
Patrick was a member of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was an inactive member of the Prince Hall Mason Chosen Friends Lodge. Patrick was one of the original founding members of the Harrisburg Gourmet Club. He loved to cook, camp, and travel. He was a sponsor member of the Central PA Friends of JAZZ since the inception.
Patrick is survived by his wife of 14 years, Shirley A. Dearing; sons, David Kevin Dearing, of Fayetteville, NC and Michael E. Dearing, (Jackie Wiley-Dearing), of Harrisburg; and their mother, Precious Carothers, of Hershey; grandchildren, Jordan D. White, Schucara Dearing, Ashley M. Dearing, Alyssa N. Dearing, and Brittany Dearing; a surrogate son, Robert Penn, (Ines), of Allentown; a host of nieces and nephews; 5 great-grandchildren; and his Rottweiler puppy, Falco.
He also leaves behind a brother, Frank W. Dearing, (Sandy); and 2 sisters, Regina Williams and Patricia Johnson, all of York.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice for their support. I would like to thank the family and friends at Jimmy’s The Hot Dog King for their thoughts, prayers and support during this trying time.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Saturday July 20, 2013 in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 2121 N. 3rd St., Harrisburg. Private burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, July 19, 2013 in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg.
