MARGERY ELIZABETH BAER, 96, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness in the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA, on May 13, 2018. Margie; as everyone called her, was born on October 24, 1921, in Brooklyn, NY, to Frederic and Lillie (Spach) Baer. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Baer, of West Hartford, CT. Margie is survived by her nephews, Alan Baer, of West Suffield, CT, and Geoffrey Baer of Salt Lake City, UT. Also surviving is her niece, Kristin Baer Scott and her husband, David, of Harrisburg, PA; a great nephew, Christopher Scott, of Harrisburg; a great great nephew, Joshua Scott, and a great great niece, Brooklynn Scott.
For her entire career, she was employed by the Texaco Corporation; now Chevron, in the Manhattan Corporate Offices. A life long member of St. John/St. Matthew Emanuel Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, she is the last member of the church who could trace her family roots to a founding member of the congregation. Her great grandfather, John Helmke, was a founder of St. Johns. Margie sang in the choir for 35 years, organized the church’s Girl Scout Troop, taught Sunday School, was in charge of the Altar Flower Fund for 12 years, and was a member of the Lutheran Church Women’s Group for 25 years.
Services and burial will be in Brooklyn, NY, at the convenience of the family.
