Marianne Schaefer, of Rutherford, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, June 17, 2020 at home. She was born on September 30, 1936 in Obernau Germany, the daughter of Joseph and Eva Mergler. After Joseph was killed in the war, she was raised by Eva and her 2nd husband, Hans Schrader. In addition to her parents, Marianne was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. Schaefer, her brother-in-law, Z.P. Rowland, and nephew, Robert Rowland. Marianne is survived by Frances Flack, Sonia and Tim Sellers, and grandpuppy Sam of Rutherford, with whom she resided. Joe and Sue Nies of Hummelstown, Pa., John and Mary Nies of Clearwater, Fl., her Sister, Franzizka Rowland, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and special nieces and nephews. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, and 12 great- grandchildren. Marianne worked at Dauphin County Courthouse, and Dauphin Manor, where she retired from. She loved cooking, backyard barbecues with family and friends, and was famous for her German potato salad! Everyone called her "Mom", and if you left her house hungry, it was your fault! She enjoyed Harry Potter movies, playing cards, gospel music, and reading her daily devotional. The family wishes to thank the staff at Osteopathic and Harrisburg hospitals, especially Dr. Muvva. And the entire staff at Residential Hospice for their care of Mom and their guidance. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 11 AM at Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111. A visitation will be from 10-11 AM at the Funeral Home. Marianne, I will never forget our lunch outings to Mayflower Seafood Restaurant, whether it was in Rocky Mount or Roanoke Rapids, NC. You sure did love your fish. I would get so tickled when you ordered your food, then extra fish to take home, and the look on the waitresses faces! Priceless. I'll never forget your generous heart and infectious laugh, my friend. I love you and will miss you deeply. Bonny Fleming
