Born August 31, 1942 in Paterson, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Clarence L. and Katherine M. (Empie) Borst; and was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 50 years, Joseph R. Popnik.
Surviving are loving nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, her wonderful neighbors on Mifflin Ave, two very good friends, Donna Winch and Judy Pierce, who shared endless loving adventures and memories.
Marlene was a retired Librarian for the Susquehanna Twp. School District where she enjoyed her many students.
She was a member of St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, Paxtang Civic Club, PA Librarian Association and PA School Library Association where she held several positions and the Beta Theta Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, where she rarely missed the state and international conventions, and never missed partaking in Retail Therapy wherever it was held.
She loved attending the theater in Hershey and New York, traveling with family and friends, knitting and shopping.
Everyone knew Marlene for the sweet gentle person she was. In her memory she would be so happy if everyone would pay it forward with an act of kindness
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, August 18, 2025 at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, 4000 Derry St., Harrisburg. A viewing will be held 10:00 AM Monday until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
