Martin John Kern

Martin John Kern, 40, son of Barbara Tropp Kern and Ralph J. Kern passed away May 16, in Brookshire, Texas. Marty was a graduate of Pottsville Area High School (1995) and Penn College (1998) with degrees in Building Construction, Carpentry and Cabinetmaking. Marty was a skilled craftsman employed by various building construction and supply firms. He was certified as an EMT early in his career and held numerous certificates in firefighting and emergency rescue across the past 25 years. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Yorkville Fire and Hose Co (PA), Old Lycoming Township Fire Co (PA), Westlake (TX) and Brookshire (TX) Fire Departments and was passionate about training and teaching others to advance their skills.

In addition to his parents he is survived by a daughter, Haven, a sister, Anne Gussow (Germantown, MD), a brother, Karl (Santa Fe, NM), a niece and nephew, aunts, uncles, cousins and a family of firefighters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on May 31 at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church 4000 Derry St. Harrisburg, PA at 11 am with visitation 9:30 to 10:45am. Interment service will be private at the convenience of the family.
