Minnie E. Shumpert Kireta went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at Homeland Center, Harrisburg, PA. Minnie was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, in 2007, after 54 years of marriage.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Fred R. (Nancy), East Hanover, Elizabeth, Harrisburg, and David (Gerdien), Florida. She has two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Minnie grew up in South Carolina and was the daughter of the late James A. and Pearl E. Shull Shumpert, and step-mother Blanche Roof Shumpert. Born September 20, 1932, she is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Blakey of Jonesboro, GA, and Pearle Ethridge, of West Columbia, SC, and two brothers, Joe Shumpert of GA and Allen J. Shumpert of West Columbia, SC. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by one brother, James Shumpert, and five sisters, Barbara Ann Williamson, Marcella Jeffcoat, Elaine Dominguez, Emma Napier, and Bernice Ochoa.
She was a member of St. Catherine Laboure' Catholic Church, Coffee Cup, Adult Prayer Group, and Gold's Gym Silver Sneakers. She loved gardening, enjoyed flowers and couldn't walk past a weed without pulling it.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at 11:00 am, at St. Catherine Laboure' Catholic Church, 4000 Derry Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. A visitation will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday until the time of the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Catherine Laboure' School, 4000 Derry Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
The family would like to thank all those at Homeland Center who loved and cared their mother.
