Mrs. Naomi Cooper Jacobson passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on May 14th at her home in Boca Raton, Florida.
She was born on June 26, 1928 in Philadelphia, the only child of Miriam and Emanuel Cooper.
Naomi enrolled at Bard College before transferring to Pennsylvania State University. She was a member of the Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in teaching. While at Penn State she met her future husband, Dr. Louis H. Jacobson. After raising their five children, Naomi earned her Master’s degree as a reading specialist at Bloomsburg State University. Naomi was a substitute teacher and reading specialist for many years in the Selinsgrove Area schools.
In 1951 Naomi married Dr. Louis H. Jacobson and they settled in Selinsgrove to raise their children. Naomi assisted with her husband’s veterinary practice and loved their many dogs and other pets. For several decades they were active members of their local synagogue, Congregation Beth El of Sunbury. Judaism was a cornerstone guiding Naomi throughout her life.
With her husband and also after his passing, Naomi was an avid world traveler. Her travels included Israel, Egypt, Japan, China, Hong Kong, India, Nepal, Peru, France, Italy, Greece, Prague, Hungary, Kenya, Galápagos Islands, Canada, Britain, Scotland, and Brazil.
After the passing of her beloved husband in 1990, Naomi moved to the Boca West community in Boca Raton, Florida. In Florida Naomi continued teaching with a focus on English as a Second Language students. For decades she was very active in Boca West Book Review and Search for Spiritual Meaning Groups. Naomi was a life-long learner and embraced new technologies from PCs, the Web to iPhones and iPads. She was known for her vibrant fashion and love of the arts. Always a classical music aficionado and piano player, Naomi enjoyed attending concerts and operas with the Boca West groups.
Naomi’s supreme passion was her family and she is survived by her children: Miriam and her husband David Cohen; Myra and her husband Bill Lieberman; Valory; Rachel and her husband Donny Auricchio; and Matthew and his wife Anne. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Elaina Lieberman, Danielle Seltzer, Leah Jacobson, Leora Lieberman and her husband Robert Eisinger, Aaron Jacobson and Eva Cohen.
The funeral will be conducted at the Beth El Congregational Cemetery, Northumberland.
