Regina K. Schmidt passed away on Sunday June 17, 2012. Born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, on November 18, 1923, she was the daughter of Victor and Margaret Mulligan Kurbyweit. On October 7, 1944, she married Thomas B. Schmidt, Jr., who survives her. Gina is also survived by four children, eleven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren: Thomas B. Schmidt, III and his wife Donna L. Fisher, and their sons Nicholas T. and Nathaniel B. Schmidt; Karen S. Davis and her husband Charles R. Davis, their daughter Amanda Davis Everly and husband Thomas Everly (and their children Lynn and Tommy), their son Charles (“Tuck”) R. Davis, Jr. and his wife Christen Davis (and their daughter Ella Jon), and their son Thomas R. Davis (and his son Jack); James R. Schmidt, his daughter Caitlin A. Brodie and husband Zachariah Brodie (and their daughter Rya), and his son Waite S. Schmidt; and Victoria S. Sporik and her husband Michael S. Gina and Tom’s fifth child, Daniel, died shortly after his birth in 1950.
Gina was an alumna of Hood College, Frederick, Maryland. She was an active member of St. Catherine Laboure parish and a tireless volunteer supporting the work of many community organizations in Harrisburg. She and Tom went regularly to New York for theater, toured the American West before that was common, and later traveled to Spain and England. Gina was an avid golfer. At home, her hands were rarely still, and she produced an endless skein of embroidery, needlepoint, sweaters, and cross-stitch. Gina was intensely loyal to her family, generous in her friendships, and always sought cheerfully to learn more about a world she found marvelous.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine Laboure on Saturday June 23, 2012, starting at 2:00 p.m. Gina’s family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to support the Carolyn Croxton Slane Residence of Hospice of Central Pennsylvania.
