Stephen E. Lange passed away peacefully at home on October 4, 2025, at the age of 74. He was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania on April 9, 1951 to Ernest and Marjorie Lange, the 2nd of four children.
He graduated in 1969 from Henderson Sr. High School in West Chester, PA. He went on to study political science at the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School and fine arts at Penn State University.
After college, Steve started a career in sales, while also pursuing a passion as a political cartoonist. He was accepted as a member of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists in 1983. His work was published in several local publications including the Guide, the Morning Press, the Sentinel, Pennsylvania Magazine, and was distributed nationally across 80 weekly publications.
Steve was known for his good humor, a love of baseball, beer—and especially the combination of the two. He was immensely proud of his two daughters. He was an avid runner, competing in hundreds of local races throughout the years, and logged over 7,000 miles in competition. He was deeply committed to his faith throughout his life, which sustained him throughout his battle with leukemia and later with Parkinson’s disease.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gail Lange, children Caryn Beitler and son-in-law Robert Beitler, Rebecca Lange and son-in-law Patrick Cavanagh, his granddaughter Abigail Beitler, and his sisters Kathy Boyer and Beth Sookiasian.
The family extends deep gratitude to caregivers Kiera and Kymarri and the Watching Over Us staff for their compassionate care throughout the past several years.
Services will be held on October 18, 2025 at 1:00PM at Ascension Lutheran Church at 4768 Union Deposit Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Parkinson's Foundation.
