Born on October 6, 1927, in Steelton, PA, Wanda was the beloved daughter of Edward Martin (father) and Fanny Davis (mother) and Emory Davis (stepfather).
Wanda was preceded in death by her brothers Charles Davis and William Penn Martin and sister Janet Paige, former husband, David Forney Sr and four sons, William (Billy) Forney, David Forney Jr, Daniel Forney (Trudy), and Paul Forney.
She is survived by her sister Ellavee Stevens (Ralph)and children, Richard Davis (Judy), Judy McGriff (Eugene), Sandra Wright (Bill, preceded), John Forney (Cindy), Suzanne Farquhar (Barry), Mark Forney (Brenda), Mary Manning (Todd), and Jonathan Forney (Alicia), and over 40 grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will cherish her memory and carry forward her legacy.
A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Wanda was known for her unwavering strength, stubbornness, determination, an amazing work ethic, and her famous Christmas cookies and homemade Easter eggs. She spent many years proudly working as a cook at the Downtown Daily Bread at the Pine Street Presbyterian Church before she retired in the late 1980s. She was an avid reader, a lover of game shows, old western movies, Betty Boop, and insisted on walking almost a mile a day right up until about a year before her 96th birthday. She loved to travel to places like New York, New Jersey, and Washington DC. Wanda had quite a sweet tooth and was often caught sneaking her favorite treats to her grandchildren when their parents were not looking. She really enjoyed attending The Chapel Church in Middletown and felt loved there.
Wanda was a feisty lady and instead of spending her 97th birthday doing something safe and calm like playing bingo, she celebrated it with a helicopter ride, marking the first and only time she left the ground. During the last few months of her life, Wanda developed a true passion for shopping. Even when she could barely stand, she would look at you with a spark in her eye and say “I want to go shopping!” However, nothing brought Wanda more joy than spending time with her beloved family. If she could combine her time with family with a shopping trip, she was ecstatic.
A memorial service will be held on March 14, 2025 at 11:00 am at Neill Funeral Home; 3501 Derry St. Harrisburg, PA 17111. A visitation will precede the service at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow at Middletown Cemetery, 675 N Spring St. Middletown, PA 17057.
“He will wipe away every last tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, mourning, crying, or pain for the old order of things has passed away.”
Revelations 21:4
Rest in Peace, Wanda. We know you have now “gone shopping” in Heaven for eternity.
