Wanda W. Freed
August 5, 1925 – May 30, 2018
Wanda W. Freed, 92, of Harrisburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Spring Creek Nursing Center. Wanda was born in Orbisonia, PA, to her parents, the late George W. and Thelma A. (Uttley) Long Swonger. After graduating from Orbisonia High School in 1943, Wanda made her way to Hershey to work in a sheet metal plant to help with the war effort. She then entered the Cadet Nurse Corp at Polyclinic Hospital to receive federally sponsored training to become a nurse. She worked at Polyclinic Hospital for 30 years as a Psychiatric Nurse. Wanda was a wonderful seamstress who could make almost anything. In her free time, she would do any kind of puzzle. She had hundreds of them.Wanda is survived by two daughters, Janey W. Gast and Jacquelyn A. Moyer, and an honorary son, Joseph H. Pickering. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Lee E. Gast (Leanne), Kurt A. Gast (Suzanne), Michele L. Setzer (Doug), and Daniele R. Moyer; and 3 great granddaughters. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111. A visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National MS Society, 2000 Linglestown Rd, Suite 201, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
