Celia and Family, Al was a wonderful friend and colleague during my 12 years as Dean of the College of Business at JMU. He joined our Executive Advisory Council in the mid 1980s while serving as Partner and National Director of the Tax Education program for Ernst & Young. When Al retired from E & Y 1989, we were fortunate to recruit him to join our accounting program as Professor of Accounting and later as Director of the School of Accounting. It was pleasure to work with and admire this wonderful friend until he retired in 1995 the same year that I departed JMU for a position in Boston. Both he and Celia were good friends of my wife, Diane and me, and we will always cherish his memory.

Al was a work colleague for 6 years at Arthur Young, Reston. A man of the highest integrity, he was a great friend and work colleague. I most enjoyed our discussions when we had differences of professional opinion. I always left those discussions with a better understanding of the issues and a higher personal regard for Al. You were always a better person after talking to him.
