Arthur Henderson Edmunds

Arthur H. Edmunds, age 99, of Harrisonburg, died on April 18, 2018. He was the son of Thomas Castleton Edmunds and Nannie Thweatt Edmunds. He was born in Dinwiddie County, VA and spent his early adult years in Clarke County serving as a protégé to B. B. Jones at Audley Farm. He joined the Virginia National Guard and was inducted into federal service at Ft. George G. Meade, MD. He received his commission in the 4th Infantry Division and served as a captain the European Theater of Operations during World War II. He was promoted to the rank of major, inactive, after the war.
Following the war he was employed in commercial banking for over 37 years in Berryville, VA and in Wilmington, DE. After retiring from Delaware Trust Company, he and his wife moved to Harrisonburg, VA in 1984, where they joined the First Presbyterian Church. Here he wrote his memoirs in a self-published book titled “Toot Your Own Horn.”
He is predeceased by sisters Betty Bankert, Mary Harris, Virginia Reichert and Nan Takacs; and brothers Thomas and John Edmunds.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene Winn Edmunds; two daughters, Carolyn Thomas of Midlothian, VA and Nancy Francisco of Salem, VA.; and five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one step great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel (Crestwood Building) of the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, VA at 3:00 o’clock on April 28.
