Barbara Ann Yates Simmons

Barbara Ann Simmons, 71, a resident of McGaheysville passed away at her home on Thursday, June 2, 2016. She had been ill since 1990. She was born on April 30, 1945, in Tazewell, VA, and was the daughter of the late Ralph and Eloise Rose Yates. Barbara received her real estate license from Gaston College in NC and managed the American Real Estate Company in Myrtle Beach, SC, she was employed as a realtor for much of her life. She was a member of the Sanctuary Church in Branson, MO, under Pastor Sam Kaunley. Barbara enjoyed going to the beach, traveling and was a people person. On November 25, 1980 she married Edwin W. Simmons, who survives. She is also survived by a son, Steven Hendricks; a step-son, Travis Knight and wife, Lavonne; four grandchildren, Brittany Knight and fiancé, Will Anderson, Steven Hendricks, II and fiancée, Shelby Slayton, Dakota Hendricks, Jason Maxwell and fiancée, Samantha Hemp; three great-grandchildren, Alexander Maxwell, MacKenzie and Bodie Anderson; and her mother-in-law, Reba Simmons. She was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Wayne Dellinger; her step-father, Hubert Pruett; and her father-in-law, Edwin L. Simmons. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, June 5, 2016, at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, with Pastor Stacy Meyerhoeffer officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
