Betty Sue Coscia, 72, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
Betty was born to the late Walter Rodgers and Reitta Roberts Rodgers. She was also preceded in death by her beloved brother, Calvin Rodgers.
A proud graduate of Virginia Tech University, Betty went on to dedicate 35 years of faithful service to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office before retiring. Throughout her career, she was known for her strong work ethic, loyalty, and commitment to serving her community. Her many years of service reflected her dedication and the pride she took in her work.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Betty found her greatest happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She had a special love for dogs and a passion for creating a peaceful and beautiful home. Her backyard was truly her own little oasis, where she enjoyed tending to her fishpond, caring for her surroundings, and appreciating the beauty of nature. It was a place that reflected her personality, her hard work, and her love for the things that brought her joy.
Above all, Betty treasured her family. She leaves behind her loving siblings, Donald Rodgers and his wife, Diane, of Mount Crawford, Virginia; Carolyn Jones of McGaheysville, Virginia; and Jayne Rodgers of Bridgewater, Virginia.
She is also survived by six nieces, one nephew, and eleven great-nieces and great-nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Over the years she was a devoted dog mom to Shep, Sally, Missy and Josie.
Betty will be remembered for her independence, her dedication to her family, her love of animals, and the many years she devoted to her community. Her life was one of hard work, quiet strength, and appreciation for the little things that make life beautiful.
Although she will be deeply missed, the memories she created and the love she shared will continue to live on through those who knew and loved her.
A graveside service will be held 11 am, Friday, October 30, 2026, at Saint Jacobs (Spaders) Church Cemetery, with Pastor Dan Bassett officiating. Casket will be closed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an animal charity of one’s choice.
Her work here is done, but the love she leaves behind will remain forever.
