

Beverly “Vicki” Wheeler Wood gently crossed from her earthly home to her eternal home on August 26, 2015, surrounded by her adoring children. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Broadway Baptist Church. A time of fellowship will follow the memorial service. In honor of Vicki’s wishes, Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg has provided cremation services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant View, Inc., P.O. Box 426, Broadway, VA 22815 or Friendship Industries, 801 Friendship Dr., Harrisonburg, VA 22802 in her memory.
Vicki leaves to cherish her memory her four children, Christie Wood, Karen Grizzard (Wilson), Betsy Wood, and David Wood (Sherry); four grandchildren, Sara Farthing (Kevin), Megan Grizzard, Lindsey Wood, and Kyle Thompson (Odessa); and four great-grandsons, Parker and Cameron Farthing, and Owen and Layne Thompson.
Vicki was born to George James Wheeler, Jr. and Lela Henderson Wheeler on January 21, 1926 in St. Clairsville, Ohio. She attended South Park High School in Buffalo, NY and was a graduate of Averett College in Danville, VA.
In 1948 she married Harold Wayne Wood who preceded her in death. After marrying they spent a short time in Ohio where Christie was born, then settled in Broadway. At the time of her death she was a resident of Tranquility House at Bridgewater Home. She was a former resident of Broadway and member of Broadway Baptist Church.
Vicki had a full and rewarding working career. She wrote ads for a local TV station, was a school teacher and teacher’s aide for Rockingham County Public Schools, and a bank teller. Vicki loved people and has blessed the lives of her family and friends with love, humor, and countless delicious meals. She loved music, flowers, the ocean, and spending time with family and friends.
