Burnett Hayes Burgess

Burnett Hayes Burgess, 87, a resident of Harrisonburg passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Sentara RMH Medical Center. He was born on December 17, 1934 in Bridgewater and was the son of the late Gertrude Burgess Johnson. Burnett enjoyed buying lottery tickets and loved going to the horse races. He is survived by his companion, Jean Goodwin of Harrisonburg; a daughter, Pandorria Varner and fiancé, Xavier Cason; a son, Shafton “Willie” Goodwin; grandchildren, Rakeem Goodwin, Da’Shaun Cathey, and DaMani Isiah Goodwin; all of Harrisonburg; brothers, Woody Johnson and wife, Barbara, of Mt. Sidney, Al Johnson of Harrisonburg and Harold Johnson and wife, Grenell, of Elkton; a brother-in-law, Joseph Goodwin of Harrisonburg, and numerous nieces and nephews. A sister, Dorothy Strother and brother, Roscoe Burgess, and niece, Twila French, all preceded him in death. Honoring his wishes, he will be cremated and a memorial service will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, December 16, 2022 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
