Carolyn was born on March 10, 1941, to the late Leonard Lee Tysinger and Margaret Click Tysinger.
On February 6, 1960, Carolyn married Donald Lee Landis, who preceded her in death on August 16, 2013.
Carolyn was a graduate of the Harrisonburg High School class of 1959, where she was active in basketball, field hockey, band and was also a majorette. She also attended Blue Ridge Community College and Mary Baldwin University. Carolyn worked in personnel at Metro Pants for 22 years and retired from Hershey Chocolate of Virginia as manager of Employee Relations after 22 years.
Carolyn was a very active member and President of the Auxiliary to Hose Co. #4, Past President of the Northern Virginia Firefighter’s Association Auxiliary, as well as Past President of the Virginia State Firefighter’s Association Auxiliary. She was also Past President of the Shenandoah Valley Personnel Association.
Fun times were many for Carolyn with family and countless friends. Beach trips, cruises, road trips, state firefighter conventions, and many trips to try her luck with a slot machine. She was extremely generous, and no one ever left her home hungry or without a sweet Hershey treat.
She is survived by sons, Michael Landis (wife, Diane), Thomas Landis (wife, PJ); stepdaughter, Mary Katherine “Kathy” Landis; grandchildren, Ayla Landis Hottel (husband, Zach), Kelsey Eckard (husband, Jared), Kailey Landis; great grandchild, Collins Madonna; sister-in-law, Kaye Tysinger; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Carolyn was preceded in death by brothers, Richard Tysinger and Bud Tysinger.
The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Monday, September 8, 2025, at Otterbein United Methodist Church. The casket will be closed.
Burial will be at 11 am, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Beaver Creek Church Cemetery. A celebration of life service will follow the burial at 2 pm, at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Nancy Bunton and Michelle Mazza officiating.
