A son of the late Dr. Francis LeRoy Byers and Anne Conrad Byers, he was born January 5, 1938 in Harrisonburg.
Mr. Byers attended Harrisonburg High School and graduated from Christchurch School in 1957, Randolph Macon College in 1963 and the University of Virginia in 1969. He was a teacher in Augusta County, Portsmouth, Harrisonburg and for the Department of Defense on Okinawa and in Germany. After retiring from teaching, he maintained a vineyard for a number of years. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
Surviving is his sister, Frances Ann Byers of Harrisonburg.
There will be no formal services. Burial will be private in Woodbine Cemetery.
