

A son of the late Efstathios and Sophia Sakkas, he was born on March 5, 1932, in Komboti-Arta, Greece. He made his home in the Harrisonburg community for over 40 years and was affiliated with the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Charlottesville, VA and the Dormition of The Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Winchester, VA. He was a simple man that liked to joke, laugh, and spend time with family and friends.
He married Anna Erene’ Kontos who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Sophia Sakkas of Bethesda, MD, and Stacey Sakkas of Charleston, SC; three sisters; one brother; and numerous nieces and nephews and was preceded in death by a brother.
Funeral services will be held at Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, at 2:00PM from the chapel of Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Father Panagiotis Hanley officiating from the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church of Charlottesville, VA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00pm until 2:00 pm prior to the funeral. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Bridgewater, VA.
