Rev. Donald Ray Allen, Jr.

He was born on October 22, 1930, in Malone Florida to the late Donald Ray Allen, Sr. and Della Clark Allen.

He graduated from Florida State University in 1952 and subsequently joined the Navy before marrying Caroline Elizabeth (Betty) Yancey in February of 1953, who preceded him in death on December 20,2019. He served the navy active duty for 3 years before entering seminary and remained active in the Navy Reserves for 25 years.

Rev. Allen graduated from Union Theological Seminary in 1959 with a Bachelor of Divinity and 1973 with a Doctor of Ministry. He was called to pastor a congregation at First Presbyterian Church of South Norfolk, Virginia in 1959. He was called to become the founding pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg, Virginia in February of 1963. He served Trinity for 18 years before accepting a call to Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC, which he served for 15 years. He returned to the valley in 1995 before retiring in 1996.

He is survived by four daughters, Sharon Pippert (Greg Anders) of Silver Spring, MD; Margaret Bergstrom (Bill) of Rutledge, PA; Mary Jean Kempfer (Greg) of Linville, VA; and Susan Phend (Dave) of Port Republic, VA.

He had 6 grandchildren, 4 biological and 2 who joined the family through foster care and 4 great grandchildren. One sister, Sherry Satin of Harrisonburg, one brother, Harry Allen of Eustis, Florida and one sister, Dixie Jean Allen (deceased). He also had numerous nieces and nephews.

Honoring his wishes, he will be cremated with a memorial service on July 10, 2026, at Trinity Presbyterian Church at 11am. Inurnment will be later in Montreat Memorial Gardens in Montreat, NC.
