Donald Lee Landis

Donald Lee Landis, 77, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on Friday morning, August 16, 2013.

He was born on May 2, 1936 in Harrisonburg and was the son of the late Michael C. and Mary Hammack Landis.

Don grew up in Dayton and graduated from Dayton High School. He worked as a carpenter and in maintenance for Neilson Construction, Sarco Corporation, Sunny Slope Farms Wampler Division and Bud-Dol Terrace Apartments. Prior to his retirement in 2006, he worked as a maintenance contractor for Packaging Corporation of America. He grew up as a member of the E. U. B. church.

Don was a life member of Hose Co. #4, Inc., Past President of the Northern Virginia Firefighter’s Association, Harrisonburg Elks Lodge #450 and the United Commercial Travelers (UTC).

He was married twice, his first wife, Lera Jo Wimer preceded him in death on December 31, 1956. On February 6, 1960 he married the former, Carolyn Tysinger who survives. He is also survived by three children, Mary Katherine “Kathy” Landis, Michael L. Landis and wife, Diane, and Thomas A. Landis and wife, P. J.; three grandchildren, Ayla, Kelsey and Kailey; one step-grandchild, Devin McDonaldson; and his caregivers, Charles and Brenda Shifflett. A memorial service will be held 4:00 PM, Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Pastor W. L. “Sonny” Henkel officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Friends may also call at any time at his late residence. Private burial will be held earlier in the day.
