

She was 96. She was born July 16, 1915, the 6th child of Walter William Hamilton and Maude Rippetoe Hamilton of West Augusta, Augusta County, VA.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Forest Guy Hamilton and John Henry Hamilton and five sisters, Virginia Maxine Walzer, Anna Bell Graham, Ruby Florence Driver, Helen Irene Helsabeck, and Ellen Irene Daniels. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Dorothy married Wilbur S. Pence July 19, 1939 in Winchester, VA. They were married for 44 years. Wilbur passed away Feb. 4, 1986.
She is survived by one son, John C. Pence of Winchester, VA and one daughter, Betty Pence Yankey and husband, Jack Yankey, of Fairfax Station, VA; and two grandsons, Jonathan A. Pence of Roanoke, VA and Raymond S. Yankey of Fairfax Station, VA.
She graduated in 1936 from Virginia State Normal School, now JMU, and taught in Bath County and Deerfield. She was a longtime active member of the Dayton United Methodist Church and knew the scriptures and loved the Lord.
The family will receive friends at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home from 7:00 until 9:00 Tuesday evening, Dec. 6.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at the Dayton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Bird officiating. Interment will be private in Dayton Cemetery.
