Elizabeth "Betty" Ann (Shimer) Bryan

Born on March 10, 1935, in Westernport, MD, she was the daughter of the late Chester W. and Anna Mae Marsh Shimer.

Betty graduated from Bruce High School, Class of 1953 and from Catherman’s Business School in 1954. She was employed at Westvaco two years prior to her marriage to Robert (Bobby) Bryan on June 3, 1956. They moved to Fort Wayne, IN, while Bobby attended Indiana Technical College and she worked for Indiana and Michigan Electric Co. They returned to Westernport in l958. She then worked for Upper Potomac Television Co. until the birth of their daughter Robin and later a son Eric. When they were ready for college, she returned to the workforce with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and later the First National Bank of Piedmont (later named First United Bank and Trust) where she retired on May 31, 1995. After her retirement from the Bank, she worked as a bookkeeper for Four Sisters’ Golf Course for ten years.

She was an active member of the Westernport Church of the Brethren where she served as Director of the Children’s church, church clerk, treasurer and deaconess. She served as treasurer of the Tri-Towns Ministerial Association, Tri-Towns Food Pantry as well as the Bruce High Alumni Association.

She moved to the Bridgewater VA area on September 15, 2015, where her husband passed away on October 13, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, Margaret, brother, William (Bill) Shimer and his wife, Martha, her twin, Robert (Bob) Shimer, her in-laws Robert and Olive Bryan, two sisters-law and two brothers-law.

Surviving is a daughter, Robin (Shelley), of Mt. Crawford, VA and a son, Eric (Dorette) of Harrisonburg, VA; her grandchildren, Emma, Tess and Casper; former daughter-in-law, Mollie; and several nieces and nephews, she loved very much.

Honoring her wishes, she will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date at Westernport Church of the Brethren in Westernport, Maryland.
