

A daughter of the late Marvin B. and Sadie Houff Brown, she was born on December 28, 1917, in Rockingham County. She graduated from Linville-Edom High School and lived her entire life in Rockingham County and Harrisonburg.
Elizabeth worked at Alfred Ney’s for 23 years before retiring and was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling with her family, sewing, cooking, and making cookies and candy at Christmas.
On June 22, 1940, she married Donald Eugene Funkhouser who preceded her in death on December 12, 1992.
Surviving is one daughter, Donna F. Simmons of Harrisonburg; one niece, Anita Wayland of Harrisonburg; one nephew, Nolen Rhea of Dumphries, VA; six great-nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mildred “Millie” Funkhouser Turner and her husband, Wendell, a son-in-law, Owen D. “Billy” Simmons, Jr; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Raymond Albrite and Maxine and Jack Dean.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 pm Sunday, February 16, at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 17, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Harold Webster, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Dayton Cemetery.
